Searching Instructional Videos

Tuesday, September 24, 2013

Watching video on the internet has become very popular, generally beating out reading as the preferred method of obtaining information. People would rather passively accepted the information instead of deliberately read about it. I'd figure if I made a video about this topic, it would be viewed more than this post read. Furthermore, a video has a defined length of time that it will be completed. Reading depends on the reader's abilities in order to finish the text. But there's one thing that written words excel in while videos are near useless.

"Twerk" Has Every Right to Be a Word

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Coincidentally after this year's MTV's Video Music Award performance by Miley Cyrus, the word twerk was added to the Oxford Online Dictionary. The main reaction around the internet was disgust; attributing the addition of the word to an esteemed dictionary as a loss of intelligence for our culture. My stance is the near polar opposite.

The Grandmaster; Most Certainly Grand

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

People who know my stance on advertising will remember me saying that I don't feel like I notice advertising. However, proponents of advertising say this is exactly the idea; to catch your attention without you noticing. If that is the case, then I don't find myself acting on that attention which is the end goal of paying for the advertising. However, this time a YouTube ad got me of all things to check out a movie, as I don't even normally watch movies. And yes, there will be spoilers.

The Simplest of Slideshows

Sunday, August 11, 2013

I've been doing a lot of design work recently, and with that practicing my jQuery skills. One of the most popular elements on a webpage these days is the slideshow. It goes along with the idea that people are reading less and would rather get the information from a picture. However, many of the tutorials for slideshows either lack functionality or are too complex. This is how I solved the problem.

Flatbed Scanner Art

Wednesday, August 7, 2013

Recently, I was given the task of scanning images into the computer using a flatbed scanner. It reminded me of when I was younger and I was digitizing some artwork I had drawn. It's common nowadays for some artists to draw their work by hand and then scan the piece into the computer for compositing and editing purposes. However, this revisit to using the scanner gave me an idea that doesn't seem to have been developed yet.

A New Year, a New Design

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

It's been a while since I've updated. I've since gotten very involved in school; trying to better myself and the people around me. In doing so, I was introduced to a concept called responsive web design. Considering all the different types of devices people can now use to view a web page, it's now very important to ensure a page is designed to look sound on all these devices, including new ones to come. That is the reason for this new design which brought some new challenges to overcome.

Response to Instagram Policy Changes

Tuesday, December 18, 2012

First let me be clear; I don't use Instagram and I've never even had an account. However, it seems everyone I know does and it's a frequently used app among many. I think a lot of what sets me apart from this behavior is that I don't take a lot of pictures. Further, I think it's most important to create something rather than simply capture it. Unless of course the thing you are capturing is particularly unique. Sunsets, food and cats don't really satisfy my definition of 'unique'.
